I hope everyones holidays were good, as those who keep up with my flickr pictures know, mine was good. My brother made it back in spectacular fashion, allbeit in 2D form. The most notable other news is that I now have a fantastic girlfriend. I hope that she doesn't mind that I mention that here. :)
The picture is from a game of Carcassonne I played with the gf and her sister and husband. Carcassonne is an excellent german game where you place tiles so that the sides match up, and attempt to get the biggest cities and roads. Lots of fun, not too reliant on luck, or skill, but a great blend of both. I've been trying to find it, but it doesn't seem to be available in Canada. I am most likely going to have to have it ordered from the States. gah.

I ordered my copy of Carcassonne through a mail-order German games store based in Kitchener (I think it was http://germangames.com, but their website doesn't seem to be up). The game is available in Canada, just hard to find--you have to look in specialty gaming or comics stores. You'd probably have an easier time downtown and they usually have it where Settlers of Catan is sold.

I play Carcassonne at work on a regular basis with the guys I hang out with. We usually play the Hunters&Gatherers version. I ended up getting the PC version of all the different variants of it, cost me $20 all together. It's great, cause there is even an online community play.

Unless it's the German version of drinking JENGA, I'm not impressed.
I still think Settlers is more fun !
well I'll have to try that one as well. From you and your friends, I've heard it is good.
not like its a crazy strategic game like chess... but its definitely more involved than carcassonne.
theres also more interaction (read: spiting) in Settlers... which is always a plus !
